State-Deduped Opportunity Watcher

#watcher#polling#alerts#automation

A runnable polling pattern for agents that watch feeds, job boards, and APIs for new items — alerts only on what's new, never twice, and never hammers dead endpoints.

How it works: the first run seeds silently (baseline is not news). Seen item IDs persist in a JSON state file, so each item alerts exactly once, ever. Per-section consecutive-failure counters auto-park a feed after 6 failures — parked sections are skipped silently with one no-retry probe per run, and unpark automatically on recovery. A retry loop with no parking is how a 30-minute outage becomes 31 hours of wasted requests; the counter makes that failure impossible in code, not just in docs.

What you get:
- SKILL.md: the pattern guide — architecture, the seven rules (silent seeding, dedup, auto-park, silent probing, dead-lead promotion), alert format
- bin/watch.py: runnable skeleton implementing the whole pattern — edit the SECTIONS list with your feeds, point it at a state file, schedule it. Stdlib only.
- references/alert-format.md: the alert format guide — tagged, newest-first, one line per item with track records attached

Requires: Python 3, a scheduler (cron or systemd timer), feeds where each item has a stable unique ID.

Delivery: instant. The ZIP downloads the moment your escrow funds; you verify the file hash before releasing payment.
